5th Annual Dinner Dance Extravaganza - 2009

R.A.M.P. would like to thank everyone who attended the dinner dance held at the Doubletree Hotel on November 21, 2009. Kudos goes to our guest speaker William A. Johnson for the wonderful job of speaking on "Reaching Your Dreams Through Education."
 
With your attendance the event was a great success for the George H. Cooper Scholarship fund. Again, thanks to each and everyone of you.

Deputy George H. Cooper - The Way We Were

On a dreary October afternoon recently, I arrived at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George H. Cooper and sitting at the kitchen table, I had the honor of interviewing a true trailblazer and an important part of our agency history. You see, George Cooper, 81 is the first African-American hired as a Deputy Sheriff in the Monroe County Sheriff's Office in 1951.

After serving in the military, George was happy to be working at Stromberg-Carlson yet his father had other plans for his twenty-four year old son. The elder Mr. Cooper was a prominent barber in Rochester and was very involved in local politics.
